Special Events

Natalia López introduces Robe of Gems

This screening is part of a special seminary: Encounters & Screenings with Carlos Reygadas and Natalia López.

From June 2 to June 6 2025, Mexican filmmaker Carlos Reygadas (°1971) and Bolivian editor, actress, and director Natalia López Gallardo (°1980) will be our special guests. They are invited by RITCS/EhB, in the context of a fruitful dialogue between film theory and film practice. This research event is a collaboration between the three Schools of Arts (RITCS, KASK, KASKA).

About “Robe of Gems”:
This Mexican crime film and debut of director and writer Natalia López Gallardo is clearly influenced by her experience as editor (a.o. for her husband Carlos Reygadas) to tell a mysterious tale, clouded in an atmosphere of guilt and penance, horror and shame. Gallardo’s ensemble film mixes realism, dream sequences and metaphors to give a voice to the people who disappear through the cracks in society in the age of corruption and class politics in modern Mexico.

After the screening of ROBE OF GEMS on the 3rd of June, film historian Wouter Hessels (professor film history/film analysis RITCS – INSAS – KASKA-dko) will talk about her film with filmmaker Natalia López Gallardo.

Special Events
